Howie Hinman of the Houston Drillers was on top of his game today.

The 33-year-old tantalized the Twin Cities Northmen with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 3-0 shutout.

"He had the changeup working," Twin Cities manager G Maloney said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Houston hurler had no strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 1 hit in his complete-game effort.

Hinman told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

This year Hinman has worked 117 innings with 60 strikeouts en route to a 5-3 record and a 2.92 ERA.
