The Cincinnati Packers got a superb performance from pitcher Damon Rutherford, but the New York Knickerbockers still won the game, 5-3. Rutherford threw 7.0 innings allowing 5 runs. The Packers drop to 5-6 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1976 season.

Francisco Chavez came through with a big-time hit for New York. The first baseman smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 5-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"Winning is all that really matters and we got it done today," Chavez told the New York Chronicle.
