12-3 Captains Win over Quakers Evens Season Record
|
San Diego beat Philadelphia on the strength of starting pitcher Mark Pike's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 12-3. Pike yielded 1 run over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. His record improves to 3-1. San Diego is now 49-49, while Philadelphia is 39-58.
John Panneton, the 19th overall pick in the 1975 draft, helped out the San Diego cause in the bottom of the second inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the right fielder went 1 for 5, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"Mark had good stuff. When he did get into a compromising count, he made the most of it," said San Diego manager Joe Mack.
