Knickerbockers Earn Win with Late Rally
|
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the New York Knickerbockers got the win.
The New York Knickerbockers faced a tough opponent in Brooklyn pitcher Dave Gaultney, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Flatbush Park by a final score of 4-3. Gaultney went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. New York goes to 49-51, Brooklyn to 50-50.
Francisco Chavez, who finished 3rd in the NBL in home runs with 29 in 1969, had a direct impact on the outcome. Chavez contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the tenth inning to put New York up, 4-3.
"What a great win for our team," said a jubilant Sean Kelly, the New York manager.
