The Cleveland Bobcats used the hitting of catcher Fred Johnson to subdue the Chicago Traders, 6-5, in 12 innings. For the game, Johnson was 2 for 6 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 and driving in 2. Cleveland reliever Rick Tomlinson picked up the win, upping his record to 6-0. Vern Hensley absorbed the loss. Cleveland has now reeled off 6 straight wins.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 12th inning, when Cleveland center fielder Phil Chirico, facing Vern Hensley, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Bobcats the 6-5 win.

"Our team showed some spunk," said Chirico.
