Washington Gets 8-3 Win
|
Jeff Lawler, who signed a 2-year contract worth $280,000 on 02/01/1976, led Washington to a triumph over Pittsburgh. The final score was 8-3. The center fielder went 3 for 5, falling a triple shy of the cycle. He scored 3 runs and added 2 RBI. Rich Moreland earned the win for Washington. He lasted 6 innings, allowing no runs on 3 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 5-6. Washington currently is in 6th place in the National Baseball League Eastern Division at 44-59.
Washington used the timely hitting of Larry Wools to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Eagles on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"The name of the game is scoring runs," Wools said. "We did a good job of that today."
