Northmen Come Up Short at Chicago, 5-4
|
The Chicago Hawks and Twin Cities Northmen completed their game despite the inclement weather.
The Chicago Hawks knocked off the Twin Cities Northmen, 5-4, in American Baseball League action at Hyde Park Stadium. Chicago pitcher and Clinton, Missouri, native Mark Evert had an outstanding performance. Evert yielded 4 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 4, and struck out 7. His record improves to 3-9.
An inflection point occurred with no one out in the bottom of the first. That's when Hawks right fielder Mark Morris hit a knuckle curve from Gerald Gross for a 2-run single. Just like that, Chicago was up, 2-1.
"Winning is hard sometimes," said Hawks manager Mike Flaherty. "This one was nice to get."
Chicago sits in last place in the American Baseball League Western Division at 37-67.
