Milwaukee Absorbs 4-1 Loss to Chicago
|
The Chicago Traders picked up a win at Union Field, dropping the Milwaukee Dairymen, 4-1. Randy Birch, the 21st overall pick in the 1969 draft, was the difference-maker. Jimmy Calhoun, credited with the win in relief, is now 5-3. He allowed no runs on no hits in 0.1 innings. Randy Weisenberg was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 14 of 19 save opportunities.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Rafael Fuentes came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Milwaukee pitcher John Williams, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Chicago on top, 2-1.
"Randy is tough to beat when he's hitting his spots," said Chicago manager Larry Link.
The win for the Traders raised their record to 55-50.
