Brooklyn Dispatched, 5-1, by New York
|
The New York Knickerbockers picked up a win at Knickerbocker Stadium, topping the Brooklyn Bluebirds, 5-1. On the mound for New York was right-hander Bruce Owen. He played a principal role in the triumph. The winner was Owen. He threw 6.2 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Dave Gaultney. The triumph puts New York at 51-49 for the season.
Steve Wells took Brooklyn hurler Dave Gaultney deep in the bottom of the fourth. His 3-run home run put the Knickerbockers on top, 3-0. In all, Wells had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said New York manager Timothy Widholm. "It's usually not just one thing."
