Traders Lose at Home, 6-4
|
Explorers left fielder Randy Barnes left his mark on his team's 6-4 win over the Chicago Traders. Barnes, who finished 3rd in the NBL in wins above replacement with 9.6 in 1972, was 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while scoring 2 times for St. Louis in the contest. Ramon Juarez, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-0. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 9 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 1 and walking 4. Chicago is 7-4 after the defeat.
St. Louis catcher Charlie Bartels contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the first. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 7th hit of the season and put the Explorers ahead, 2-0.
"This kind of win will certainly make our fans happy," Barnes told the St. Louis Gazette.
