The Philadelphia Quakers got a good effort from starter Mel Hartman in defeating the Washington Eagles at Quakers Stadium. The final score was 3-2. The winner was Hartman. He threw 7.1 innings allowing 2 runs. The loser was Dave Alexander. Darrell Klug earned the save, his 22nd in 29 tries.

Vern Friend, who finished 5th in the NBL in triples with 9 last year, helped out the Philadelphia cause in the bottom of the fourth inning with a run-scoring ground out. For the game, the shortstop drove in one run.
