Empires Lose By a Run at Montreal
|
The Montreal Habitants eked out a 2-1 win versus the New York Empires at LaSalle Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Bob Schar. He was terrific. Schar, now 1-1, was the winner. In 8.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. The save was credited to Mark Weeks, his 1st.
Montreal catcher Marvin Walker contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a cutter to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 6th hit of the season and put the Habitants ahead, 1-0.
"We squandered some opportunities," said New York manager Dan Whiting.
Montreal goes to 5-6.
