New York got a strong outing from Vern Gould as the Knickerbockers defeated the Washington Eagles, 2-1, at Knickerbocker Stadium. The Knickerbockers improved their record to 55-52 by beating Washington.

The Knickerbockers got a big boost from first baseman Francisco Chavez who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the first inning off Eagles hurler Pat Sullivan. It was his 56th walk of the season and put New York on top, 1-0.

Gould attributed the win to "making big pitches in big moments."
