Wolverines Earn Win with Late Rally

The Detroit Wolverines locked up a win at Queens Field, knocking off the New York Empires, 4-3. On the mound for Detroit was right-hander Monte Willis. He played a major role in the triumph. Picking up the save was Darrell Klug. He's now 16 for 18 in save chances. The Wolverines bumped their record to 54-53 with this latest triumph.
Troy Stallings, who finished 4th in the NBL in triples with 10 in 1971, had a direct impact on the outcome. Stallings contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Detroit up, 4-3.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," New York manager Dan Whiting said, following the tough loss.
