Knickerbockers Turn Away Bluebirds, 3-2
|
The New York Knickerbockers converted a terrific effort from starter Danny Abril into a win over the Brooklyn Bluebirds at Knickerbocker Stadium. The Knickerbockers won the game by a final score of 3-2. Bruce Owen earned his 3rd save in 3 chances. The second-place Knickerbockers hiked their record to 61-46.
The Knickerbockers got a big at-bat from third baseman Bob White. For the game, White went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 10th home run of the season gave New York a 3-1 lead.
"We were in it," said Brooklyn manager John Meeker. "We just didn't score enough runs."
