Empires Suffer 2-1 Road Loss
|
The Montreal Habitants rode a solid performance from 34-year-old starting pitcher Bob Schar to a win, beating the New York Empires, 2-1, at LaSalle Stadium. The winning pitcher was Schar, now 14-4. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 6. Al Johns got the save, his 20th in 24 chances.
With the game tied, 1-1, in the bottom of the fifth, Schar had a key at-bat for Montreal. With a runner on 3rd, Schar hit a run-scoring single off Larry Stanford, making the score 2-1, Habitants.
"We took home the win," said Schar. "What's not to like?"
Montreal is now 64-45, 2½ games up in the American Baseball League Eastern Division.
