The St. Louis Explorers converted a terrific effort from starter Bernie Underwood into a win over the Milwaukee Dairymen at Milwaukee Municipal Stadium. The Explorers won the game by a final score of 5-1. The loss makes Milwaukee 56-55.

It could have been a different outcome for St. Louis, had it not been for Fernando Martinez, the two-time All-Star . Martinez contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put St. Louis up, 3-1.

"Bernie kept his poise and got the job done," said St. Louis manager Ray Fleetwood. "He was outstanding."
