Generals Solve Empires, 6-2
|
Atlanta Generals starter George Palmer pitched a strong game against the New York Empires at Atlantic Station Field, leading the Generals to victory, 6-2. Ron Winder earned his 16th save in 21 chances. The win lifted the Atlanta record to 58-55.
Rudy Spencer had a big 2-run double for the Generals in the bottom of the first inning. With Atlanta leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Jack Neenan and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Generals ahead, 3-0.
"We put our best foot forward tonight," said a smiling Palmer.
