With second baseman Gary Austin leading the charge, the New York Empires defeated the Baltimore Lords, 5-3, at Queens Field. Austin went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Tom Duncan picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Denny Boyd suffered the loss. With the win, New York elevates its record to 7-4.
Austin had a timely hit for New York in the bottom of the eighth. With New York trailing 3-2, he turned a first pitch cutter into a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season, making it 4-3, New York.
Austin attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team."
