Starting pitcher Dave Young pitched well enough to help the Los Angeles Pobladores beat the Seattle Emeralds, 5-4. Young, the winner, moves to 3-1. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 1 walk. Rick Furlong closed out the game, earning his 2nd save.
John Fine dealt the Emeralds a blow in the bottom of the sixth. Batting with the bases loaded and Los Angeles leading 3-2, Fine, who is tied for 9th in the ABL in stolen bases with 25, hit a first pitch fastball for a 2-run single.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Fine told a Los Angeles Times reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
Los Angeles now sits at 51-65, while Seattle falls to 64-51.
