Drillers Win at Twin Cities, 4-3
|
Twin Cities got a terrific game from third baseman David Davalos. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Houston, 4-3. Davalos went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times. Dick Knight, the winning pitcher, is now 9-10. He went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, while fanning 3 and walking 1. Tom McAteer earned the save for Houston, his 20th of the year.
Rich Lewis, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1966 draft, had a direct impact on the outcome. Lewis contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the eighth inning to put Houston up, 4-2.
"I thought we competed really well," said Drillers manager Tom Harrington. "I thought the energy was really good."
The Drillers have a one-game lead in the American Baseball League Western Division.
