The Terriers grabbed a win, 6-3, at Wolverine Field, overcoming a fine effort from Detroit pitcher Jim Bryant. Bryant went 7 innings and allowed 4 runs. Roger Long, the winner, improved to 4-17. He held the Wolverines to 3 runs on 6 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 8 and walking 6. David Juarez earned the save for Boston, his 13th of the year.

Boston took a 5-3 lead on Larry Montgomery's 3rd triple of the season. The run-scoring triple, which Montgomery hit in the top of the ninth, left Detroit pitcher Darrell Klug visibly frustrated.

"Things didn't bounce our way," said Detroit skipper Alex Wobbema.

Boston goes to 48-68, Detroit to 58-56.
