The Houston Drillers were almost helpless in their 9-0 loss to the San Francisco Seagulls and hurler Arturo Lopez. Lopez kept the Drillers confused all game, spinning a 4-hit shutout.

"Tip your hat to Lopez," Houston manager Tom Harrington said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."

The 33-year-old right-hander had 4 walks and 7 strikeouts in a strong performance.

"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Lopez said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."

In 22 starts this season, Lopez has crafted a 9-6 record with a 2.90 ERA.
