Bluebirds Lose By a Run at Philadelphia
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Philadelphia Quakers and the Brooklyn Bluebirds, Mel Hartman, who is on pace to win 20 games this season, proved to be the difference. The Philadelphia right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Quakers win. Hartman picked up the win for Philadelphia, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 14-5. Bill Smith was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 9 of 12 save opportunities.
The Quakers got a big at-bat from left fielder Jim Vadnais. For the game, Vadnais was 1-3 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 6th double of the season gave Philadelphia a 2-0 lead.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Philadelphia manager Jeff Green.
With the victory, the Quakers upped their record to 60-55.
