Eagles Suffer 7-3 Home Defeat
|
Knickerbockers second baseman Steve Wright left his mark on his team's 7-3 win over the Washington Eagles. Wright, who finished 3rd in the NBL in home runs with 30 last year, went 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for New York in the contest. With the victory, the Knickerbockers upped their record to 65-53.
New York used a clutch at-bat from Ron Freeman to capture the win. The left fielder hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Knickerbockers ahead, 7-3. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Wright.
