Wright Swings Knickerbockers to 9-2 Win
|
The New York Knickerbockers beat the Washington Eagles, 9-2, at Monument Field. New York second baseman Steve Wright had an outstanding performance. He went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Ray Schifsky got the win, improving to 3-8. He worked 8 innings, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 2. New York raised its record to 67-53 with the win.
With New York leading 2-0 in the top of the second, Wright hit a forkball from Dave Alexander for a 3-run home run. It was his 20th home run of the season and put the Knickerbockers ahead, 5-0.
"What's not to like about a win?" said Wright.
