Seattle Beats Montreal, 5-1
|
The Seattle Emeralds went home winners at Puget Field, thanks in large part to starter Pat Burkholder. Burkholder stifled the Montreal Habitants, enabling Seattle to grab the 5-1 win. Seattle has now won 3 straight, while the Habitants have lost 3 in a row.
Charlie Hall had a big 2-run home run for the Emeralds in the bottom of the third inning. With Seattle leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a changeup from Erv Koenig, who finished 4th in the NBL in strikeouts with 165 last year, and punished it. The result was his 14th home run of the season, which put the Emeralds on top, 3-0.
"Pat's a gamer," said Seattle manager Mark Velez. "Glad he's on our side."
