Blockbusters Sneak By Bulls, 5-4
|
Hal Lahr did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Kansas City Bulls from being beaten, 5-4, to the Los Angeles Blockbusters at Independence Field. Lahr went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs. Reliever Larry Shears picked up the win. His record improves to 3-2. Bob Crosby, who is tied for 4th in the NBL in saves with 27, took the loss. Los Angeles, at 61-62, holds down 5th place in the National Baseball League Western Division.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the ninth, with the game tied, Tom Hester was at the plate when Los Angeles scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Blockbusters to go in front, 5-4.
"The other side took advantage in some key situations," said Kansas City manager DD Martin.
