Industrials Curb Bluebirds, 7-3
|
Pittsburgh picked up a win at Allegheny Field, bumping off the Brooklyn Bluebirds, 7-3. Pitcher Dick Witt was a major reason the Industrials emerged victorious. Witt went 8.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 11 hits, walked 2, and struck out 8. His record improves to 13-5. The Industrials have an impressive 80-44 record.
Jerry Hunter, who finished 4th in the NBL in stolen bases with 22 in 1962, chipped in for Pittsburgh with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"We did a lot of things right," said Hunter.
