Traders Turn Back Eagles, 4-3
|
The Chicago Traders did just enough to sneak past the Washington Eagles, 4-3, at Monument Field. Chicago pitcher Larry Cox, in particular, had a standout performance. Cox, now 12-11, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 12 hits, while striking out 1, walking 3, and allowing 3 runs. Randy Weisenberg was credited with the save, his 33rd in 37 tries.
Cox contributed in the top of the seventh. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, he hit a run-scoring single. It was one at-bat among others that helped Chicago get the win.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Chicago skipper Larry Link. "I can't complain."
Washington now owns a losing streak of 8 games.
