The Houston Drillers picked up a win at Puget Field, knocking off the Seattle Emeralds, 5-3. Starting pitcher Bill Switzer was a big reason why. Switzer, now 11-8, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 3 runs. With the win, the Drillers improved to 74-49.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Rich Lewis came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Seattle pitcher Fred Wild, he hit a first pitch fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Houston on top, 5-3.

"This was a good win," said Lewis.
