Empires Lose to Generals, 5-2
|
The Atlanta Generals faced a tough opponent in New York pitcher Andy Humphrey, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Queens Field by a final score of 5-2. Humphrey went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. The win belonged to Renie White in relief. His record improves to 2-2. Tom Duncan took the loss for New York. Ray Norton got the save, his 2nd in 2 chances.
Atlanta used a timely hit from Richie Lord to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Generals ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
"We believe in ourselves and we're willing to work hard. It's a good combination," Lord told the Atlanta Bulletin.
Atlanta is now 64-60, New York 64-59.
