Knickerbockers Bridle Bluebirds, 2-1
|
Starting pitcher Jack Forbes held up his part of the bargain, helping the New York Knickerbockers stymie the Brooklyn Bluebirds, 2-1. The winning pitcher was Forbes, now 11-7. He tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 4. Steve Eaton got the save, his 15th in 25 chances.
New York first baseman Francisco Chavez contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a fastball into left-center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 103rd hit of the season and put the Knickerbockers ahead, 2-1.
"We played hard and won," said Forbes. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
With the win, New York pushed its record to 63-63.
