Blockbusters Come Back Late to Top Industrials, 2-1
|
The Pittsburgh Industrials could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Gene Steinhauer into a win. Instead, the Los Angeles Blockbusters prevailed, 2-1. Steinhauer threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball. Los Angeles reliever Tom Benson picked up the win, raising his record to 6-5. Ray Williams was tagged with the loss. At 62-67, Los Angeles is in 6th place in the National Baseball League Western Division.
Los Angeles got a knockout punch from Jim Quinlan. The shortstop hammered a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Pittsburgh manager Vincent Wicker.
