Philadelphia Bats Go Silent in 5-0 Loss
|
The San Diego Captains went home winners at San Diego Sporting Complex, thanks in large part to starter Ray McKenzie. McKenzie stifled the Philadelphia Quakers, enabling San Diego to grab the 5-0 win. McKenzie, the winner, moves to 4-2. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 4 walks. The victory gives the Captains a record of 68-59.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the eighth inning, but Ed Prater didn't flinch. With a runner on 3rd and Philadelphia trailing 1-0, Prater retired Bobby Crankshaw to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Prater, with a wink.
