|
Baltimore picked up a win at Seton Hill Stadium, bumping off the Los Angeles Pobladores, 2-1. Pitcher Dan Valenti was a major reason the Lords emerged victorious. Valenti, now 11-9, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 4, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Denny Boyd recorded the save for Baltimore, his 3rd of the season.
Tom Payton had a big solo home run for the Lords in the bottom of the second inning. With Baltimore leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he got a fastball from Carlos Novoa, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1968 draft, and swatted a home run to left. It was his 7th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Lords ahead, 2-0.
"Dan is a tough competitor," said Baltimore manager Steve Read.
With the win, the Lords have a record of 65-64.
