Explorers Victorious at New York, 10-2
|
St. Louis and New York got after it at Knickerbocker Stadium.
The St. Louis Explorers handed the New York Knickerbockers a loss at Knickerbocker Stadium. The final score was 10-2. Adam Voeller made the highlight reel for St. Louis. In addition to his 1 single and 1 home run, he scored 1 run and drove in 3. He also added 2 bases on balls. Jorge Gonzalez, the winner, is now 4-8. He struck out 3 and walked 3 over 6 innings, while allowing 2 runs on 6 hits.
Ken Osterhage had a big 2-run double for the Explorers in the top of the first inning. With St. Louis leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a slider from Ray Schifsky, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1966 draft, and swatted a double to center. It was his 23rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Explorers ahead, 3-0.
"We put the pedal to the metal," said Voeller.
New York now owns a losing streak of 5 games.
