Ovitt Baffles Montreal Batters
|
The Montreal Habitants had no answer for Atlanta Generals pitcher Gary Ovitt. They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 3-0. Montreal managed only 3 hits off Ovitt, who had 5 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Ovitt got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Generals fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances, but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
This season, Ovitt shows a 13-9 record in 28 games, 214.2 innings, 120 strikeouts, and a 2.26 ERA.
