Northmen Handle Hawks, 7-2
|
A 4-RBI performance from the 1962 Rookie of the Year Award winner Charlie Sokol helped the Twin Cities Northmen beat the Chicago Hawks, 7-2. Sokol, now 13-7, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. Twin Cities is 6th in the American Baseball League Western Division with a record of 54-75.
The Northmen got a big at-bat from right fielder Steve Garcia. For the game, Garcia was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 24th home run of the season gave Twin Cities a 3-0 lead.
"Charlie is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Twin Cities manager G Maloney.
