Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the St. Louis Explorers and the Chicago Traders. St. Louis won it, 2-0. St. Louis starter Marty Clark was in command. With the victory, the Explorers upped their record to 75-57.

Dave Bieler had a big solo home run for the Explorers in the bottom of the fifth inning. With St. Louis leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a curveball from Larry Cox, who is tied for 4th in the NBL in wins with 15, and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Explorers on top, 2-0.

In postgame remarks, Bieler hailed his team's "single-minded determination."
