The Pittsburgh Industrials beat the San Diego Captains, 11-2, at San Diego Sporting Complex. Carlos Chavez, in particular, was impressive. He went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Jerry Zaruba got the win, improving to 10-12. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 8 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 8 and walking 2. The first-place Industrials, at 87-47, lead the National Baseball League Eastern Division by 9 games.

With Pittsburgh leading 2-1 in the top of the fourth, Chavez hit a sinker from Dave Fields for a run-scoring double. It was his 26th double of the season and put the Industrials ahead, 3-1.

"We can't expect to win," said San Diego manager Joe Mack, "with that kind of performance."
