Before the game, Paul Wiley said he liked his chances. His instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing at Atlantic Avenue Grounds, the Terriers pitcher blanked the New York Empires 4-0.

"I just had a feeling it was going to be my day," Wiley said in the clubhouse afterward. "My control was awesome. I could throw my changeup even when I was behind in the count."

The Boston starter held New York scoreless, giving up 3 hits while registering 8 strikeouts and issuing no walks.

"We didn't have very many good at-bats," Empires manager John Harris said in a postgame interview. "When that happens, you usually lose."

This season Wiley has crafted a 14-5 mark with a 2.11 ERA in 205 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .214 against him and he has 148 strikeouts.
