Wolverines Edge Emeralds, 3-2
|
The Detroit Wolverines racked up a win at Puget Field, bumping off the Seattle Emeralds, 3-2. Jay Crain, who started for Detroit, pitched effectively for his team. Crain went 8.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. His record improves to 16-5. Walt Gardner, credited with the save, is now 3 for 4 in save opportunities.
Detroit used the bat of Pete Morrison to get the win. The left fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Wolverines ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Crain.
Detroit has run its win streak to 4 in a row.
