Eagles Drop 6-4 Decision to Captains
The San Diego Captains withstood a fine game by Washington third baseman Jerry Duersch at San Diego Sporting Complex, to upend the Eagles, 6-4. Duersch was 1-2 with a double and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winner was San Diego reliever Jack DeWitt, now 7-5. The loser was David Rodriquez. Ron Barc notched his 5th save in 9 chances.

Earl Peters hit a 2-run triple off David Rodriquez in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Captains in front, 6-4. Peters had 1 walk, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 1 for 3.

"It's the best feeling when you come through for your teammates," said Peters.

The Captains lead the National Baseball League Western Division by 2½ games.
