Stallings Helps Wolverines Defeat Lords, 7-2
|
Riding the 3-hit performance of the 30-year old first baseman Troy Stallings, the Detroit Wolverines stopped the Baltimore Lords, 7-2, in 9 innings. Detroit reliever William Matz picked up the win, upping his record to 8-11. John Fredrick was saddled with the loss. With the win, the Wolverines hiked their record to 71-66.
Steve Hudson had a big run-scoring triple for the Wolverines in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Detroit leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from John Fredrick, who finished 3rd in the ABL in wins with 18 in 1973, and swatted a triple to left. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Wolverines ahead, 3-1.
"I think we did a good job of looking for pitches we wanted to hit and put good swings on them," said Detroit skipper Alex Wobbema.
