Pierce Throws 6-Hitter En Route to 2-1 Empires Win
|
In a low-scoring contest between the New York Empires and the Houston Drillers, Jon Pierce, who is a two-time All-Star, proved to be the difference. The New York left-hander earned props for his performance in the 2-1 Empires win. With the win, New York upped its record to 68-68.
Pierce, a native of Beecher, Illinois, was dealing all game. He kept Houston hitters off-balance, while giving the Empires 9 quality innings. Pierce threw 114 pitches, allowing 6 hits and striking out 8.
"My job is to throw quality pitches, go as deep as I can, and give us an opportunity," said Pierce.
