New York third baseman Steve Wells was instrumental in helping the Knickerbockers triumph, 12-4, over the St. Louis Explorers. Wells went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 2 times. Bob James earned the save, his 3rd in 6 tries. The loss makes St. Louis 77-61.

New York used a clutch at-bat from Javier Guerra to capture the win. The left fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Knickerbockers ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"It was great to come out and swing the bats," Wells told the New York Observer.
