Chicago Downs Cincinnati, 5-4
|
The Chicago Traders beat the Cincinnati Packers, 5-4. Chicago pitcher and Greensboro, Georgia, native Skip Crawford led the way. Crawford got the win, improving to 15-12. He gave up 5 hits and walked 3 over 8 innings. He allowed 4 runs. Randy Weisenberg got the save, his 37th in 42 chances.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for John Sledd? The Chicago third baseman had a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Traders on top, 3-2. For the game, Sledd had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Skip had good stuff. When he did get into a compromising count, he made the most of it," said Chicago manager Larry Link.
Chicago now sits at 74-64, while Cincinnati falls to 59-79.
