Washington Beaten, 5-3, by Cleveland
|
The Cleveland Bobcats downed the Washington Eagles, 5-3, at Monument Field. The Bobcats were led by Phil Chirico. Chirico was 2-5 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The win went to Joe Clabaugh in relief. His record improves to 14-7. John Walker took the loss. Cleveland raised its record to 80-59 with the win.
Tom Crowell provided a timely hit. The Cleveland center fielder delivered a bases-clearing triple in the top of the eighth inning to put the Bobcats on top, 5-2. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.
"I was just going up there trying to see good pitches, that was about it," said Chirico.
