Cincinnati Stopped, 3-1, by Pittsburgh
|
The Pittsburgh Industrials picked up a win at Allegheny Field, knocking off the Cincinnati Packers, 3-1. Starting pitcher Jerry Zaruba played a key role in the triumph. The winning pitcher was Zaruba, now 11-12. He tossed 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 7. Today's win puts Pittsburgh at 90-49, while Cincinnati falls to 59-80.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the eighth inning, but Ray Williams didn't flinch. With a runner on 1st and Cincinnati trailing 2-1, Williams retired Glen Bennett to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Williams, with a wink.
