Bluebirds Rock Bobcats, 14-3
|
The rain came, as predicted, but the Brooklyn Bluebirds and Cleveland Bobcats were able to complete their ballgame.
The Brooklyn Bluebirds powered past the Cleveland Bobcats, 14-3, at Flatbush Park. Jackie Cooper was 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 4 runs, to lead the charge. Bill Curry came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 4 innings. His record now stands at 1-2.
Tom Pena had a big bases-clearing double for the Bluebirds in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Brooklyn leading 4-3 and the bases loaded, he got a sinker from Dennis Lawrence, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1971 draft, and swatted a double to right. It was his 12th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Bluebirds ahead, 7-3.
Cleveland manager Daniel Mays said: "We'll rinse this one off and get ready for the next game."
The Bluebirds now have a mark of 69-71.
