Corps of Discovery Stadium was the site of a remarkable pitchers' duel.

St. Louis starter Pat Burkholder put a stranglehold on the New York offense. The right-hander had complete command of his splitter in leading the Explorers to a 1-0 win. St. Louis leads the National Baseball League Western Division by 6½ games.

Had Fernando Martinez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Martinez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Explorers.

Burkholder attributed the win to his team's "hyper resolve."
